Why you Should Always Embrace the Windy and Cloudy Weather for Your Beach Maternity Shoot

Why is it important to embrace the unexpected? Because the most magical images often happen when nature takes the lead!

When you imagine your dream maternity session on the beach, you probably picture a golden sunset, calm breeze, an and a perfect sky. But here’s the truth: Wind and clouds often create the most breathtaking, cinematic photos.

As a Tarpon Springs beach maternity photographer, I’ve learned to embrace the wild, moody, and windswept moments, and so should you. Here’s why those “less-than-perfect” beach days will still create a breath-taking backdrop for your maternity photos.

 Cloudy Skies Create Soft, Dreamy Light

You might be surprised to hear this, but cloud cover can actually be your best friend when it comes to flattering light. On overcast days, the sun is naturally diffused, giving your skin a smooth, glowing look, no harsh shadows, no squinting, and no sweaty shine.

 Wind Adds Movement, Emotion, and Magic

Wind isn’t a problem,  it’s a creative opportunity. It’s up to you to embrace it! Flowing gowns, wind-swept hair, and motion in your photos help tell a story. These elements bring life to your images, creating powerful, cinematic moments.

And don’t worry,  I’ll guide you with gentle posing that works with the wind instead of against it. Many of my favorite gallery images were taken on breezy days at Fred Howard Beach or Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs.

 Cloudy and Windy = Moody and Memorable 

Yes, golden hour is stunning, but a cloudy sky adds depth and mood to your photos. Think of soft gray-blue tones, ocean mist, and waves that dance. It’s also dramatic, elegant, and timeless in black and white.

The best part? These elements reflect strength and softness, everything a Mama is!

 What About Rain?

I always keep a close eye on the radar, and keep in very close contact communicating with you every few hours on the day of your photoshoot. But light sprinkles or pre-storm skies can create some of the most cinematic skies you’ll ever see. We’ll never shoot in unsafe conditions, but if we get a moody sky, we’ll embrace it and make magic.
